Costa Rica is a peaceful country without any army and therefore often surnamed "Switzerland of Central America", since the general life standard and the infrastructure are very good. It has 3,5 millions inhabitants. 33% consist of national parks or reservation areas and not only this circumstance makes Costa Rica a true nature paradise.
Situated in the middle of central America, Costa Rica has a special place on the world map: with the Caribbean Sea in the East and the Pacific Ocean in the South. Its complex geography with a variety of climatic conditions, have created a variety of biospheres, from the tropical forest to the barren land.

Climate

With average temperatures of 22 - 32°C (San José) Costa Rica is a year round destination. Although Costa Rica doesn't have clearly defined seasons and a very stable climate during the whole year, there are slight climatic changes. There are two major seasons: rain and dry period. The rain season lasts from Mai to November and the dry season from December to April. During the rain seasons it usually sunny in the morning and raining in the afternoon.

Visa

For a stay of less than 90 days, a visa is not required. (only a valid passport). For a longer stay a "Residencia" (residence permit) is required or leaving the country for 3 days.

Information can be obtained at the tropical institute (www.sti.ch) about current illnesses and if you have enough protection given by vaccination.
