Christchurch
A merry atmosphere, fascinating architecture and many parklands dominate the city of Christchurch. Christchurch, on the south island, with approx. 350’000 inhabitants, is the third largest city of New Zealand. Just as Auckland is known as the 'City of Sails', Christchurch was given the name the 'City of Gardens'. The Avon River runs through the middle of the red, paved Victoria Square, surrounded by lots of green grass and shady trees. The city is ideal for pedestrians, and it is great fun to meandre through the shopping centers or to sit and watch the people in one of the lovely resting centers richly decorated with flowers. Take note of the architecture in Christchurch, it is a real mixture of English, Gothic and Colonial styles. These different building styles, as well as the natural beauty of the city, lend Christchurch a special atmosphere.
