Official Description (Provided by language school)
Canada's leading language school
Founded in 1969, Hansa Language Centre is one of the largest and most established language schools in Canada. Hansa offers a huge variety of English classes, a flexible schedule, and a long list of trips, excursions, sports and social activities. We also offer teacher training programs as well as a number of foreign language programs for Canadians, such as French, Spanish, German and Mandarin.
ESL students can study more than twenty different subjects at twelve levels, from absolute beginner with no English language skills to extremely advanced level classes that prepare students for TOEFL and IELTS exams. At Hansa, you are placed in classes perfect for your needs, but the flexible schedule allows you to raise or lower your level or change subjects simply by discussing it with a student counsellor.
Hansa's counsellors will help you with your university or visa applications, with accommodation, with choosing the right level and subjects for your study program, and with just about anything else.
English as a Second Language Programs Hansa's English programs are based on the idea that students benefit most from a language program that is customized to their unique needs. With over 300 language classes offered daily, students have the freedom to choose what and when to study with teachers best suited to their learning style. At any time, students can change or alter their schedule. This helps them to rapidly achieve higher levels of language proficiency. It is common for students to achieve their required university level TOEFL or IELTS test scores within months.
Intensive English Program
In this program, students can choose from the many challenging classes offered including Grammar, Reading, Conversation, Listening, Writing, and Vocabulary, not to mention Idioms, Pronunciation, and Phrasal Verbs. Classes have an average of 8 students. With guidance from our counselors, students have the freedom to choose subjects, class times, and teachers best suited to their learning style. Classes are 55 minutes in length and are held from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Students can register for courses of three, four, five or six hours per day.
Executive English Program
This program is recommended for students wishing to study terminology and concepts in their specialized field. It is ideal for professionals who need an extremely intensive and individualized program, for students that need to improve proficiency, and for students who are complete beginners. This program may consist of either solely private lessons or a combination of both private and group lessons. Classes are fifty-five minutes in length.
Evening English Classes
Hansa offers Evening English Programs on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00PM to 9:30PM. These classes are all held at Hansa's 2160 Yonge Street location (just one block south of Eglinton Avenue). Lessons are designed to cover everything from reading and writing to conversation and grammar. New students can join this program any Tuesday after completing Hansa's placement test.
Hansa has full-time staff dedicated to assisting its students in finding appropriate lodging with Canadian families. Hansa’s Homestay Program offers students a private room in a family home with two meals per day from Monday to Friday and three meals per day on weekends. All families have been carefully selected and are visited regularly to ensure quality service. Students are free to change their accommodation after the first four weeks.
Residences are an excellent housing alternative for students who are not interested in living with a family. A list of recommended residences in Toronto can be found on our website. Students should contact the residence, youth hostel, or hotel directly for information or bookings. Please remember that residences operate independently of Hansa Language Centre.
Many students choose to share an apartment with friends or classmates. Bulletin boards, with a list of available rooms for rent, can be found on the second floor of Hansa’s Yonge Street Campus or on the third floor of the Eglinton Avenue Campus. Students should use caution when entering into a rental agreement. Hansa is not responsible for any rental agreements made between students and landlords.
To ensure that students have a safe and comfortable stay in Toronto, Hansa offers a reliable airport transfer service and a twenty-four-hour emergency telephone number. Our driver will meet you at Pearson International Airport, take you to your accommodation, and either help you with your check-in or introduce you to your new homestay family. Return transportation from your accommodation to the airport can also be arranged upon request.
