Official Description (Provided by language school)
ENCUENTROS, founded in 1996, is an intensive Spanish immersion school located in Cuernavaca, Morelos about 60 minutes south of Mexico City. The year-round perfect climate in Cuernavaca has earned it the nickname "the City of Eternal Spring".
The school is situated in a spacious residence with a spectacular view of “Barranca Amanalcoâ€, one of Cuernavaca’s wooded ravines that traverse the city. You will take your classes in our carefully-tended garden amidst a collection of exotic plants, flowers, fruit trees, and rare cacti.
New groups start every Monday all year round. You can study for as little as one week to several months. Classes are five hours a day in groups of no more than 4 students per teacher.
Our fun, functional communicative approach focuses on speaking Spanish in authentic contexts, with an emphasis on Mexican culture. The weekly schedule includes two visits per week to places in the city with your teacher as a guide, afternoon activities such as cooking classes, Spanish-language movies, salsa dancing, and one-day excursions on Saturdays and Sundays to places outside the city.
For accommodations we recommend a local homestay for affordable prices where you will enjoy delicious home-cooked meals with your Mexican family.
The creative, lively instructors who make up the five member ENCUENTROS team are accredited by the Morelos State Education Board. All have the equivalent of a B.A from Mexican universities and have taken the ENCUENTROS "Diplomado", a certified course to train them in the communicative focus. Most importantly, they make learning fun!
The director of ENCUENTROS, Jean K. Andersen, is originally from the US and has lived and worked in Mexico for over thirty years in language training. She has a B.A from Reed College in Portland, Oregon and an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) in Washington D.C.
